Lunch in Liechtenstein

The cold that started a couple of days ago took a turn for the worse and turned to bronchitis. Not the ideal way to feel when you need to drive hundreds of kilometers. Being Sunday, all the pharmacies were closed, so I had no choice but to endure until I’ll arrive in Italy.

I made the best of it, played the tunes from my playlist and enjoyed the amazing scenery while driving through the Alps.

I was on the autobahn, mostly heavy-trafficked, with no chance to pull off, hence I cannot share with you all the marvel, except the occasional picture taken at random necessary pit stops.

I did however stop for lunch in the self-ruling Principality of Liechtenstein, one of the richest countries on earth, with per capita incomes averaging well over $100K. It was not my first time here.

Vaduz, the capital, is not an exceptionally beautiful little city, but it is pristine. The buildings are elegant, the streets sparkling clean, flowers abound, and the pace of life is unhurried. People ride around on bicycles or in extra luxurious cars. Hikers can be seen everywhere, because the surroundings are alpine and inviting.

From Liechtenstein it was on to Switzerland, with little chance to stop. What an amazing drive! So many beautiful mountain peaks, valleys, and alpine villages that I am not able to share.   On the southern part of Switzerland, the road first coasted along the Swiss end of Lake Maggiore, then Lake Lugano. Amazing views that could not be caught on camera.

I love the rear view camera on my rental car. It is so wide, crisp, and clear.

By nighttime I had made it to Genova, my town of birth, feeling ever more under the weather, but looking forward to a good night's rest, my time here, and to finding an open pharmacy on Monday.

Ciao a tutti!! No worries, it's only a cold.

Scenery is just breathtaking. Glad you are "home" and can get better.
