Yesterday we took a long detour to the town of Futaleufu, claiming to be the world’s premiere river rafting destination. Not that either Diane or I are interested in rafting, but the call of the wild intrigued us.

Futaleufu has extreme Class III, IV, and V rapids. Lamentably, the sites where those rapids flow can only be reached by river. We would have liked to snap a couple of pictures there, but we had to make do with a couple of shots from the less ferocious Rio Espolon which has only Class I and II rapids.

Still, the place is spectacular. Set in a beautiful V-shaped valley, you are at once taken by its beauty while sensing its vibe. The young flock to this place to savor the thrill and the adventure.

For the first time we have experienced rain. It began early this morning and has not stopped since. It is predicted to continue over the next few days. While I am not providing any pictures, believe me when I say that the sky here is never short of dramatic, much more so in this type of weather.
Tomorrow night is our ferry back to Pichicolo. Let’s hope the weather won’t make the sailing too hard to take.
